Max’s First Fiesta

August 12th 2017, exactly 3 days before his actual birthday, we celebrated Max’s first trip around the sun with a Mexican Fiesta themed party. Stereotypical and racist? Probably. Cost effective, fun and easy to execute in San Diego? Yup.

I successfully ripped off some poor, creative person’s invitation from Pinterest and slowly collected random party decor that would fit the bill for months. Throw Taco ingredients and a pinata in and Ole! … a fiesta was born.

When we first began planning the party we decided to better utilize our backyard…though it is the middle of summer so the chances of a full blown outdoor party were slim. To get us a more comfortable environment we planned to complete a new Patio Cover just in time to Salsa (racist) but alas, between work, tragically relaxing family vacations and the logistics of doing anything with an infant, we could only get so much done. Bless that husband of mine and his ability to improvise though, he slapped up a shade sail and made our yard usable in the end!

Someone somewhere along the line warned me about a 1 year old’s uncertainty with their first cake. Since we hadn’t quite introduced him to sugar yet (what’s even the point of living TBH but whatever) I was told to “prep” him with little bits of sugary treats here and there…I guess so that he recognizes it when said cake is eventually placed in front of him? IDK, I gave him a couple bites of a chocolate chip cookie one day and the kid seemed pretty hip to the idea so I suspect some Grandma treats had already happened… Once again, thanks Pinterest for the “idea” I am going to “use” pictures as “inspiration” in the cake realm as well…AKA I ripped you off, thanks for the cake.
